Rochester business leaders gathered Thursday to hear from Mayor Tom Richards and Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard about safety in the city and efforts to revitalized downtown.

When it comes to downtown Rochester, perception is key, especially when it comes to safety and the business climate. Chief Sheppard showed the gathered business leaders statistics defining a long-term trend of success when it comes to serious crimes. There are still strong concerns when it comes to altercations in the bar districts as well as large groups of kids.

"I live on St. Paul and trying to go home at night is an adventure.  There's no easy answer but things like this are great, and need to be addressed," business owner Tony DiCesare said.

Chief Sheppard said a new police sub-station in the Sibley Building should help address many of the ongoing concerns downtown. He is targeting an August 1st opening.
