One Fairport woman has put her crocheting addiction to good use.

Leah Stong started "Hugs for Heads." It's a charity that knits hats, booties and blankets for people in need.

"Some friends of the family and some friends of mine had people in their lives that had been affected by cancer and disease and I just felt since I couldn't make anymore hats for the people in my home, I could make them and hopefully get some people together, make some and donate them to local hospitals and clinics," said Leah Stong.

Through Facebook, the word got out about "Hugs for Heads." Fifteen people are a part of the charity and the number continues to grow. From Rochester to New Jersey, people want to help.

"We're really blessed to have healthy children and I think that if my children were ever sick, it be such a warm feeling to know that somebody is out there thinking about your child and wanting them to have a little bit of a brighter day," said Antoinette Walter of Ontario, New York.

A brighter day for premature infants, cancer patients, the elderly and more. Leah has collected more than 100 donations from people within the past month. She hopes the hats will give those in need something to smile about.

"When they are having a bad day and they get this as a gift or get to pick one out, we hope it just brightens their day a little bit and they tell their friends and family about it and know there are groups out there that do things like this for people," said Stong.

The donations will be delivered to Rochester General Hospital on Thursday. Next month's donations will go to a local nursing home.

If you would like to get involved, you can visit www.facebook.com/hugsforheads or email hugsforheads@aol.com. Leah also has a PayPal account for donations.
