Canandaigua's Wood Library will be closed until further notice due to a pipe that burst in the library's sprinkler system.

It happened around 3 p.m. Monday. Executive Director Jenny Goodemote says 75 percent of the adult fiction books are damaged. The library is closed for cleanup and to make sure everything is working properly. A professional company came in to help dry out the rugs. Goodemote says she hopes all of the damaged books can be saved with what they call the freeze-drying process.

"They freeze the books and at this point, the books have been frozen, so we are really hopeful that we will be able to save most of the books and then they vacuum out the moisture. It's quite a fascinating process." she said.

Wood Library will be closed three to five days. All of the winter break programs scheduled for students have been cancelled.
