Lancers Blow Big Lead, Late Lead In Loss

The Lancers blew a 13-6 third quarter lead and gave up a goal with 11 seconds left that allowed the game to go to overtime where Syracuse finally won 17-15 Saturday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena.

Rochester began the scoring three and a half minutes into the match when Gary Boughton blasted a three-point shot past Syracuse goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn for an early 3-0 lead.  The Silver Knights' Ryan Pierce tallied a shot midway through the period to cut the Lancer lead to 3-2 at the end of one.

Opening the second period of play was Syracuse's Neto who, along with Kenardo Forbes sandwiched a pair of goals around a Mauricio Salles shot, giving the visitors a 6-5 lead.  Salles scored after a Syracuse clearing pass was blocked into the corner by Boughton.   Salles managed to track it down and fire a left-footer past O'Quinn for his first of the game.  Rochester added two more goals before the end of the period by Doug Miller and another by Boughton - his second of the game - to make the score 9-6 at the half.

The second half opened with a surge for the Lancers as Miller and Salles struck giving Rochester a 13-6 lead before Pierce reduced the Syracuse deficit to 13-8.  After withstanding an early Lancer onslaught to start the second half the Silver Knights battled back to 13-11 after Nelson Santana's three-point tally to end the third quarter.

Syracuse's Andriy Budnyy provided the first goal of the final period with just over three minutes left in regulation to tie the score 13-13 evoking memories of January's contest.  This time however it appeared it was Rochester's turn as Even McNeley coming from the corner to the left of O'Quinn let a quick shot go that snuck past the Syrcause netminder with 38 seconds remaining.  The lead didn't last long as with the sixth attacker, Syracuse found the net with 11 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

The two sides each had opportunity during the extra frame but following what looked to be the game-winner for Rochester, Kenardo Forbes didn't miss his chance to send the visitors home with a 17-15 win.

Rochester will be back in action on Monday, February 18th when they host the Wichita Wings beginning at 7:00 p.m.
