Ontario County Supervisors and citizens who packed Thursday night's meeting say the passage of the New York SAFE Act violated the spirit of democracy because it didn't allow time for public hearings, "the legislation is poorly written if you talk to anybody with the sheriff's departments their magazines are illegal, it was obviously done in very quick judgement," said Ontario County resident Gerald Wiepert.

When gun owners told the board of supervisors the resolution's expression of concern about the new law was too weak, they were listening.  Supervisor John Sheppard introduced an amendment to change the resolution to call for a repeal,
"I thought it was correct to bring that forward, I thought it was correct to vote on it tonight, it passed, clearly it passed," explained Ontario County Resident Craig Record.

Supervisor Dominick Vedora feared that by approving the amended resolution they'd be engaging in the same fast and furious form of democracy they're accusing the governor of.  Vedora voted against passing the amendment, along with four other supervisors, then moved to table the vote, "there are few decisions that so definitely define one's character, I urged them as in many this evening, to repeal the New York state SAFE Act and they indeed voted against it, contrary to the majority of the board of supervisors," said Ontario County Resident Mark Sheppard.

The next Ontario County Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 7th at 6:30.
