Lakeside Hospital To Close Emergency Department

By: WROC-TV
Updated: February 14, 2013
Lakeside Hospital plans to no longer offer emergency and in-patient services as part of its restructuring.

Lakeside will eliminate a total of 61 in-patient beds. Hospital officials say the number of in-patient beds and beds in the emergency department have significantly declined over the years. In addition, a rising deficit and the introduction of new healthcare models is why officials believe this is the best move. Once these services are phased out, Lakeside plans to focus more on diagnostic and treatment services.

The elimination needs approval from the New York State Department of Health. If approved, the closures would happen within the next two months.
