Ash Wednesday Services

While Christians all across our area will attend services throughout the day in observance of Ash Wednesday, one Rochester church wanted to make sure worshipers could receive the ashes as soon as possible.
St. Monica Catholic Church on Genesee Street opened at midnight. It was the only church in Rochester to be open right as Ash Wednesday began.
Those at the church said it was important to be open as early as possible for those wishing to celebrate the start of the season of Lent.
"We've heard complaints in the past that people wanted to celebrate Ash Wednesday and went to a church and found that the doors were locked. Nobody's going to be able to complain about that here at St. Monica's," said Pastor Raymond Fleming.
Masses will be at 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m.

8:00 a.m. Mass at Blessed Sacrament (534 Oxford Street)
