The plows and drivers are prepared to hit the road when the snow falls. So far this season, this anticipated storm falls right in line with how area transportation departments' budgets are operating.

During the winter months in the town of Greece, snow is common.

"I can tell you one thing--in the Town of Greece, we don't sit back, we attack a storm," Greece Town Supervisor John Auberger said.

Friday's storm will only be the second significant snow fall this season. The good is news is that the Greece Highway Department's plowing budget is right where it should be. The salt is stocked, and so is the sand. So far, overtime costs are manageable.

"There are a lot of factors that go into what we expend for the snow and ice control in the town of Greece," Auberger said.

Monroe County pays for a portion of each town's snow removal budget. The county spends $5,331,000 per year. Town highway departments take care of county roads. Head south from Greece to Henrietta and we find they are actually under budget.

"It's been busy enough so that we have stuff to do but not busy enough so that we are all exhausted," Henrietta Public Works Commissioner Craig Eckert said. "We're definitely under budget. We keep our crews on track for the heavy snow events and we haven't come close to that yet."

Last year's mild winter helps. Eckert says the town of Henrietta had 1,600 tons of salt left over.

"We won't have to purchase as much salt as we normally do. So, we can retain the money we would have spent on salt," he said.

Crews will continue to work through Saturday morning.
