Superintendent Bolgen Vargas and others met at district headquarters Tuesday morning before going out to knock on doors. Dozens of volunteers are helping with the effort. Right now, 1,000 students have missed the past two weeks or more of school. The district says when team members get to a home, they ask about where the student is and why they have missed so many days of school.
"For too long we have tolerated the fact that thousands of children don't come to school
and I am very fortunate that the community is beginning to pay attention to this issue," Vargas said.
Our crews were there as Dr. Vargas caught a truant student and brought him to school. We will have the story on News 8 at 5.
