A national gas drilling company is suing the town of Avon because of its ban on hydrofracking.

Representatives from both Lenape Resources and the town went before judge Monday. Lenape claims the town's ban is hurting business. The judge is expected to rule in about three weeks. The town of Brighton and the city of Rochester also have bans in place on fracking. At Rochester City Hall Monday, civic leaders urged Governor Cuomo to delay a decision on whether the state will allow fracking in New York. Supporters say the drilling boosts jobs and the economy. Opponents say its bad for the environment and public health.
