The family of a local missing person awarded one member of the Monroe County Sheriff's department with a scholarship for missing persons training.

Sheriff's investigators Jeffrey Branagan will attend a conference later this month in Wisconsin. Brian Sullivan's family raised the money for the training and presented him with a $1,600 check to cover the cost of the trip. Sullivan has been missing since July 8, 2007. He was last seen at a Burger King on Chili Avenue. Investigators say there have been no new leads in the case, but they are hoping the extra training will turn something up.

"The more people get trained, the better the families have a chance at getting resolution," Barbara Sullivan said.

"We hope that with the attention locally with Brian's case we will find some information and hopefully bring it to some resolution," Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn said.

The Sullivan family was able to raise these funds through a motorcycle poke run called "A Mission For The Missing." It was held last September. They hope to make it an annual event in Brian's honor.
