Driver Charged In East Ave. Hit-And-Run

The driver who turned himself in after the Monday evening fatal hit-and-run on East Avenue has been charged.
Michael Hanna, 30, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The Monroe County Sheriff's office says Hanna was driving when he hit Vaughn Steele, 26, near the intersection of East Avenue and Kilbourn Road. Steele was pronounced dead at Strong Hospital. Hanna later called 911 to report that he was responsible for Steele's death. Hanna told investigators that he thought he hit a garbage can.
Hanna has also been ticketed for operating an unlicensed vehicle. He was released on $1,000 bail.
