The CDC blames a new norovirus strain for making hundreds of people sick across the U.S. in recent months.

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the new strain spread rapidly from last September to December. Norovirus is highly contagious and can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting. It can spread fast on cruise ships, nursing homes and schools. Scientists do not know yet if this newest strain is more severe and will cause more causes of norovirus than previous years.
