Police say they were responding to a violent domestic call for a man who was suicidal.
When the Trooper arrived at the home on North Road in Geneseo, the father, Kevin Walsh, was trying to calm his son Greg Walsh, who was holding a gun. During the incident the father rushed the son, but an attempt to free the weapon was unsuccessful.
The son began beating the father with the butt end of the gun and then pointed it at him. The Trooper ordered the son to put the gun down. When he ignored the order the Trooper shot him in the shoulder.
Greg Walsh was taken into custody and transported to Strong Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The Livingston County District Attorney, Greg McCaffery, was on scene and the investigation continues.
State Police are expected to provide an update on the incident at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning and News 8 will bring you the latest information at that time.
