New Presidential Speech Writing Exhibit At U of R

The University of Rochester is showcasing a new presidential speech
writing exhibit. It includes original speeches dating from Abraham
Lincoln's inaugural address to President George H.W. Bush.'
The history that fills the exhibit's cases display some of the most famous presidential speeches of all time.
"When you think of that historical moment, the civil war, theme in that address," librarian Lori Birrell said.
You can find "A Presidential Voice" tucked inside the U of R's Rare Books and Special Collections department. It features a signed copy of President Kennedy's famous inauguration speech and letters between President Dwight Eisenhower and his wife.
"Each president puts his mark on his speeches and inauguration addresses. Warren Harding was the first president to have a speech writer and that team has grown." Birrell said.
The exhibit includes public and private collections. Curt Smith is senior lecturer hear at the University of Rochester. He served as speechwriter to President George H.W. Bush. His personal collection is included here. Smith co-curated the exhibit, which is open to the public. He includes several of the speeches he crafted and an address President Bush made at Kodak Park.
