Mayoral Control Legislation Reintroduced

By: WROC-TV
Updated: January 21, 2013
Longtime Assemblyman David Gantt has reintroduced legislation to bring city schools under the control of the mayor's office.

The bill has been submitted to the legislature, but with no co-sponsors. The idea sparked much controversy back in 2010 when former Mayor Bob Duffy voiced his support for the idea. Parents and members of the community opposed the idea because they felt that it took away their voice in the education of their children. In addition, the bill would call for the creation of an Independent Education Budget office.

There is no word on when the bill will be voted on.
