A Rochester man has been charged with manslaughter in the crash that killed his mother.

An indictment was unsealed in Monroe County Court  against Edward Smith, 49, on Wednesday. The District Attorney's office says Smith was driving the car that crashed into a tree on South Avenue back in March. Elizabeth Washington, 88, died in the crash. Investigators believe Smith was high on cocaine when the crash occurred. Washington was on her way to visit her husband, Cletes, in the hospital. He died a half hour later.

Smith is charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and assault.
