A 2-4 record to start the season is not what the much-hyped Bishop Kearney Kings expected, but on Friday against McQuaid, BK looked the part of a sectional champ winning 56-51.
Thomas Bryant led all scoreres with 19 points to lead Kearney. Zack Ayers had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks in the losing effort for McQuaid (9-3).
McQuaid entered the fourth quarter down 38-37 and took the lead 46-45 with just under four minutes to play thanks to a Charlie Zaepfel floater in the lane. Kearney retook the lead on their next trip down the floor when Antwoine Anderson lobbed a pass to Thomas Bryant who laid it in.
Anderson also had two crucial buckets down the stretch to keep BK in front. Anderson finished the night with 14 points.
