Two years ago in his state of the state address, governor cuomo announced a statewide initiative to make New York more sustainable.   Now, two years later his plan is coming together.

"We want as much input into this process as we can possibly get," says David Zorn, the Project Manager for GFLRPC.  A series of public meetings will be held next week to get ideas from everyone in the community.

"I think everyone is touched by how the region grows and the sustainability there of," says Zorn.

The goal is to protect air quality, water quality, farmland, and forests among other things.  He adds, "we all want a more sustainable region and that could mean less greenhouse gas emissions, it could mean more economic development, better water quality, different forms of materials in waste management. It could mean a myriad of things."

Once a plan is in place, the ten regions in the state will be competing for 90 million dollars in funds to help implement these sustaining strategies.

Two meeting will be held Tuesday, January 15th from 6-8 p.m.
One is at the Genesee County Building 2 located at 3837 West Main Street Road in Batavia.
The other is at the Sanford Room at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Library in Geneva.

There is also a meeting Wednesday, January 16th at RIT in Rochester from 6-8 p.m.
