A local fuel company is offering veterans and their families a helping hand this holiday season. Valley Fuel in Springwater, Livingston County, is donating a penny per gallon for all the fuel they deliver. They hope to raise more than four thousand dollars. They're working with local groups like the American Legion and VFW to identify veterans who may need assistance.
"We feel that it's a way to give back and help support veterans coming back with different afflictions, whether it's the loss of a limb or stress syndrome," said Valley Fuel owner Larry Gnau.
Marine veteran Kurt Hass said, "Legions everywhere are struggling and this is just another thing that helps us put some extra money in our coffers and help vets returning home, you know wounded vets or anyone who need a hand."
One of the Valley Fuel trucks has also been decorated with a picture of a veteran and an American flag to raise awareness. They've only been at it a month and they've already raised $400.
