Across the country bells tolled for the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting who were killed one week ago.

The University of Rochester paid tribute to the 26 victims with 26 bell tolls Friday morning. Some local churches also rang their bells. There was a nationwide moment of silence. The U of R says this is a special way to remember the victims.

"To feel like they have the ability, that moment that they can remember what happened last week and just continue to remember as the holiday season goes on and as time goes on that they're not forgotten in Newtown," Lori Parker said.

After the 26 rings, the students played several children's songs to remember the victims.
