Greece Police are warning residents about a string of purse snatchings. At least a half dozen have been reported. The thief or thieves have been targeting women leaving stores.

The purse snatchings started right after Thanksgiving. Most happened in grocery store parking lots. But in some cases victims were followed back to their homes. Now police are alerting the public. Police say most of the victims are elderly women. None of them were injured, but one woman was pushed to the ground.

"Of course I am concerned because a lot of elderly people live in Greece," resident Armelia Brannon said. "We should be able to go anywhere we want to go."

Police say in a lot of the cases, purses were set down and taken from the victim. With no suspects in custody, it is important to take extra precaution.

"Be careful where you park. Be very aware of your surroundings. Some people forget to be aware of their surroundings and people approach them without them knowing about it. Be aware of what is going on around you. Be careful when selecting a parking position. Don't just park at the first spot you come to," Captain Patrick Phelan said.

One of the suspects is described as a white male in his 20s, medium height and build. Police say if someone wants your purse, it is best to give it to them and call 911.
