The final plans are in the works for a Rochester intermodal transportation center.

The State Department of Transportation is ready to begin the final design for the project. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and Mayor Tom Richards announced the city is finally fully funded for the big project. The plan is to build it on Central Avenue where the current Amtrak station is. Amtrak will continue to own and operate the new $23 million center.

"When you put public facilities in place such as this it does two things they obviously have an economic impact there will obviously be people working here there will be people building this place. But they also say something about your city. They say something about the place that you are people arrive here and depart from here and we want a building here that reflects the city that we're proud of," Richards said.

The hope is to have the new Amtrak station finished by the end of next year.
