Vacant House Fire in Penfield

Firefighters put out a fire at a vacant home in Penfield early Monday morning.

It was called in around 4 a.m. by a couple who was walking their dog on Salt Road. The fire started in the basement and burned a hole through the first floor. The home's owner moved out and was plannning to sell the home. Firefighters say there is extensive damage to the the basement. One firefighter fell through the hole in the first floor but was not hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
