A new law has been passed that will help provide for those who have served our country.

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul pushed for the "Clothe the Homeless Hero Act." It requires the TSA to work with the Department of Veteran Affairs, donating unclaimed clothing to homeless veterans. The TSA Federal Security Director says hundreds of articles are left behind each year. The VA says about 75,000 veterans are homeless across the nation.

"These are people who put on the uniform to protect our country and to make us safer sleeping at night, the least we can do is give them clothing left behind," Congresswoman Hochul said.

"What's left at this checkpoint usually are coats, hats and sweaters so those are all items that can go to the homeless veterans and wil benefit them," security director John McCaffrey said.

The bill will go into effect after the first of the year.
