Seven adult dogs, twelve puppies and seven cats were killed in a fire that began late Monday night at a home in Canandaigua.

The Cheshire Fire Department responded to the fire, which began in the basement of the home on Goff Road around 11 p.m.

Fire Chief Mike Miller said two residents inside were uninjured.  Fifty-five year old Lori Hick spotted smoke coming from the basement.  She and 66 year old Harold Power were able to save four animals during their escape.

Fire crews put the fire out around 3 a.m.  Chief Miller said the home is a total loss and fire is not considered suspicious.  The investigation into what caused it continues.
