Body Found Outside Assisted Living Facility in Penfield

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man whose body was found outside an assisted living facility in Penfield. Deputies say the 96-year-old man lived at Baywinde Senior Living on Kidd Castle Way. Early Wednesday morning, he was found face down in a retention pond near the facility. Deputies say he may have slipped down a steep embankment leading to the pond. The man had last been seen Tuesday afternoon. Deputies do not suspect foul play. They have not released the man's name.
In a statement, Baywinde Executive Director Susan Bussey said, "Baywinde provides a community in which our residents maintain their independence and require minimal supervision. We are extremely saddened by this loss and we have been in close communication with the family of our resident. We understand this was an accident and we are fully cooperating with the investigation."
