Income Disparity

Many American families are struggling to make ends meet. Things like paying their mortgage, or simply putting food on the table can be a challenge. That's why some families say taking more money out of their pockets would only make things more difficult.
Aimee Skibickyj is a single mother of five-year-old twins. She's been unemployed since May and says it can be difficult just getting by.
"It's a struggle and a headache. It's like what did I do wrong in my life that I'm living like this," she said.
Skibickyj is not alone. Tom Walpole is a Certified Public Accountant. He says the lower and middle classes are becoming harder to distinguish. He says it's not just smaller paychecks that are making it more difficult for people.
"We all know prices are going up. Groceries are going up, gasoline is going up but these things aren't counted in the government's calculation of inflation," Walpole says.
Walpole says with the cost of living on the rise, saving and budgeting your money is key. For now, Skibicky holds out hope she will find a new job.
"It's sad, I'm 38 years old and my mom has to help me pay my bills and that is really depressing," said Skibickyj.
