Toys Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Star Wars action figures and Dominoes were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong in Rochester.
It's like winning an Academy Award for toys.
"This is probably what all toys aspire to," said Tony Cotrupe.
Star Wars action figures and Dominoes conquered several obstacles to make it to the National Toy Hall of Fame. The two toys had to battle it out competing against hundreds of nominations from the public.
The national selection committee made the final decision, but first, the toys needed to qualify for the honor.
"We say that toys have to have been played with by multiple generations so Star Wars is only 35-years-old, so it takes a while to get a couple of generations familiar with the figures, but they made it. They are home," said Patricia Hogan, Curator of Strong.
Along with the longevity factor, the toys need to be iconic. The perfect qualification for one of the oldest games in history, Dominoes.
"Every kid has played with that. I'm sure many people have made them knock into each other rather than have actually played the game, but that's the fun of it," said Cotrupe.
The honorees must bring some form of educational value. Criteria that both Star Wars action figures and dominoes meet.
"They have to foster some kind of discovery or creativity. They have to help kids learn something they didn't know before," said Hogan.
The Strong accepts nominations, so if you're favorite toys didn't make it, now is your chance to vote.
