Former Police Chief Granted Parole

Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter is ready to move forward after Merritt Rahn.
"The longer they keep on talking about this the longer the stigma will be there," said Baxter. "We as a police department have moved on."
Rahn was prosecuted and convicted for covering up a 2008 hit-and-run accident involving former Sergeant Nick Joseph. Prosecutors say he also falsified a background check for former officer Gary Pignato, and was sentenced to up to five years. To date, Rahn has been behind bars for just under two and a half years. After being denied parole last year a judge has granted Rahn early release. His former attorney John Parrinello is relieved.
"He should have been let out the first time and the ruling of that first parole board was, as I said ridiculous," Parrinello said.
With Rahn's scandal still casting a shadow on the Greece Police Department, Chief Baxter is working to rebuild trust with the public.
"It's probably one of the most difficult things you can do is building trust with people you've broken the trust down and my emphasis that I want to give here is it's not the police officers that were here that were breaking that trust but it as a police department we live or die by trust and you only build trust back one way and that's building relationships, " explained Baxter.
Parrinello says Rahn wants to move on too.
"It's sure that Merritt Rahn, the rest of his life, will lead a law abiding life," he said. "He has a talent, he's a remodeler."
