Those who lost everything due to Sandy are getting some help from other New Yorkers.
The donations are coming from Gates.
Bags and boxes of donations piled up inside of the Gates Town Hall on Monday.
It all started when a Gates Police investigator posted a message on Facebook.
That message then spread to Town Supervisor Mark Assini.
Within 48 hours, donations continued to flow through the doors.
The donations included bags of coats and sweaters, menswear, blankets, shoes, and even boxes of food.
Joshua Bowman has friends who live in Brooklyn and Long Island.
He said the major request was for clothing because many people lost everything, even some basic clothing.
He said he hoped to get some donations, but never expected so much.
"I am really overwhelmed with the outpouring and the community wanting to help out in any way they can," said Joshua Bowman, who helped collect donations.
Because of the extra donations, Bowman said he had to rent a truck to take it to Syracuse.
A State Trooper in Syracuse is expected to add the donations to others and take them down to donation centers in New York.
