Officials continue to investigate an early morning fire. It happened just after 8:00am on State Route 21, in Wayne County. Police received a phone call from a passerby, who spotted smoke coming from inside the home. Withing minutes of that call, fire crews from Marion and Williamson responded.
Trooper Mark O'Donnell says, "They observed fire and smoke coming from the structure. The fire department entered the strucure. They observed one male subject inside confirmed dead."
The owner of the home, 63-year-old Robert Kymble was the only person inside the home at the time of the fire. Investigators say the fire does not appear to be suspicious. It took crews a good portion of the morning to contain the fire.
O'Donnell says, "Every time they thought they had the fire our or under control, they would find some other areas of the house burning. It took a little while to get the fire out."
The fire caused extensive damage to the home, and crews spent hours removing debris. For now everything remains under investigation.
