Some Rochester Salvation Army volunteers are in standby mode and are prepping for a possible mission to help with Hurricane Sandy relief.

"So this is the Salvation Army mobile feeding unit. We have a stove-top and griddle if you will," said James Brennan, Envoy Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army's mobile feeding units becomes kitchens on wheels during disasters.

It's a source for hot meals when people are left without power or water.

Rochester has one truck that volunteers are stocking it with food in case they get a call to head south.

"We have heard it is likely they will be calling salvation army units wherever they can get some to assist with the devastation that hurricane sandy brought down to them"

Five crew members would caravan to help with Hurricane Sandy relief.

They can provide up to 1,000 meals per day out of the truck, running off gasoline and propane.

"The hot meal brings about some warmth normalcy, some compassion," said Brennan.

The Salvation Army says it has enough food to get started, but if you want to help out, it says you can donate money at any time.

The salvation army is also prepared to help with hygiene and first aid kits.

Until the call, volunteers say they will continue to stock up.

If you want to help you can go to the Salvation Army's website, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY, or text STORM to 80888 to contribute a $10 donation via your phone bill.
