Can you remember a time when a trip to the Assistant Principal's office meant you were in trouble? That's not the case at Rochester's Wilson Magnet High School where kids can't wait to see Lisa Traficante-Loncao. One of them nominated her for a Golden Apple Award.

We surprised Lisa during a presentation in the auditorium. She knew what was up as soon as she saw us on stage and started crying.

This woman, who has done so much for so many others, was overwhelmed by a simple thank you. She said they were happy tears. All the students erupted in cheers when we gave her the award.

Senior Derra Smith says Lisa's door is always open. "Whenever I need somebody to talk to me I know I can go to her. And she's just been with me since 9th like grade. She has motherly instincts."

"She leads with her heart" says Principal Pam Rutland. "She's an Academy Director here. And every single day she gives 150% to our students."

Lisa gets loves coming to work because she sees so many kids, like Derra, with great potential. "And just to be able to show them that potential means everything. It makes the job worthwhile. I just love every single kid here at Wilson. I think that we by far have the best students, the best teachers and the best faculty in New York State! Yeah Wilson!"

Lisa Traficante-Loncao is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. If you look below you'll see the letter we got from Derra nominating her for this honor.

Dear News 8,

I've known Mrs. Traficante since 9th grade and now I'm a Senior. Throughout the years we've grown close to where I know that if I need to talk to anyone I can walk into her office and just start talking. Mrs. Traficante is more than an administrator at school. She acts as a second mother to all of the students at Wilson. With her motherly love and firm administrative personality she really helps motivates students. Her open door policy makes students even more comfortable with her, knowing that she'll always be there for us no matter what. She really deserves a Golden Apple Award because she exemplifies what a outstanding administrator should be. I hope you select her.

Sincerely,

Derra Smith
