This center will be staffed 24 hours a day for the duration of this storm. Both the county and the city of Rochester are under a state of emergency. It allows the County Executive and the Mayor to close roads, establish shelters and ask for outside help. Two Red Cross shelters have been set up at the Dome Arena and the Brighton Presbyterian Church. They have also directed the Irondequoit Bay swing bridge to be opened as an extra travel route. Officals say they don't expect the storm to be worse than predict, but they want to be prepared.
"Our emergency operations center here is a model for emergency response and our citizens should rest assured that no matter what the impact of the storm, the public safety professionals responders here in this building are the best equipped and best trained in state to handle and kind of emergency and keep the residents of Monroe county safe, " County Executive Maggie Brooks said.
Brooks says she plans to be stationed at the center for the next 24 hours to monitor the storm as it progresses.
