Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit the Rochester area on Monday and Tuesday. The area can expect high winds, which may lead to damage and flooding along Lake Ontario and other waterways.

"We were out there earlier putting the boat away and we saw about six-foot waves and the winds are at least 20 miles-per-hour," lake shore homeowner Steve Nothnagle said. "They're only going to be picking up."

On Monday, Chief Meteorologist Scott Hetsko predicts 65 mile-per-hour winds.

It's why Nothnagle and his friend Tom were hard at work Sunday in the frigid rain securing his boat.

"The wind is going to be devastating," Nothnagle said. "It has the potential to blow these boats half way down the beach."

They're also moving anything else that could cause damage to his and his neighbors homes.

Hetsko says 65 mph winds could result in 12 to 15 feet waves. If that happens, there could be significant flooding.

Nothnagle hopes the beach will protect him

"Luckily we're on top of a dune, but the water does rise on a storm for sure," he said.

He hopes Sandy won't be as bad as meteorologists predict. Still, his goal is to be ready for the worst instead of sorry.
