Governor Endorses Congressional Candidates

Updated: October 26, 2012

Governor Andrew Cuomo and Lt. Governor Bob Duffy made pit stops in Rochester to rally support for Congresswomen Kathy Hochul and Louise Slaughter.

There are just 11 days left in this campaign - and polls show tight races for both camps.

Governor Cuomo characterized both women as "gridlock busters" in Washington - leaders who are he says are trying to cross the aisle to get work done.

He says this is a race of the democrats versus money.

However, both Slaughter and Hochul have outspent their opponents according to recent filings.

But that does not include the outside money that has flowed to endorse the republican candidates.

Regardless of endorsements, both sides say the race is about reaching voters.

"We have got to get on the street in force, spend the next 11 days and make sure everyone gets out to vote," said Rep. Louise Slaughter, (D) New York.

Slaughter's challenger, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, said she still has a great working relationship with Governor Cuomo and understands the endorsement is just politics.

"I put my faith in the voters at the end of the day. It's not an endorsement that is going to make the difference, it's you making contact with people," said Maggie Brooks, (D) Congressional Candidate.

The campaign for Chris Collins, Hochul's republican challenger released this statement:

"This campaign isn't about who can rack up the most endorsements from politicians. Its about who can go to Congress to stop Kathy Hochul and Barack Obama's destruction of our economy and their efforts to raid Medicare by $716 billion to pay for Obamacare. That's why voters will elect Chris Collins on Election Day - because they trust him to stand up to Barack Obama and defeat Kathy Hochul," said Michael Kracker, Campaign Manager.

Hochul did not speak other than to say thank you at the day's rally because she had laryngitis. It may be an indication of how much these candidates are campaign with just a couple weeks to go.
