Exercise doesn't have to be complicated.
In fact, people in one Rochester neighborhood can now track their healthy progress as soon as they step out the front door.
Neighbors in Marketview Heights are taking to the streets as part of the brand new Rochester Walks! program.
Candice Lucas is with the URMC Center for Community Health.
It partnered with the City of Rochester and Action for a Better Community to help get people off the couch and right on to the sidewalk.
She said "We know sometimes people have barriers to getting access to physical activity this is somehting they can just walk right outside their front door...We hear all the stories about obesity and diabetes and heart diswease and walking is one of the ways to maintain a healthier lifestyle."
Walkers will not only improve their health. Lucas hopes they'll also improve Rochester, one block at a time.
She added "As they're walking, they're telling us about obstacles in their path. So if it's a broken sidewalk or not a well lit street they're letting us know those things so we can get that information to the city."
This half-mile trail is one of eight the City of Rochester plans to unveil before March 2013.
