Walk Honors Fairport Teacher

By: Ben Amey
Updated: October 14, 2012
Driving rain didn't stop people from coming out to honor Heather Boyum's memory with one of her favorite activities.

"To do something that she loved which was running and walking and all manner of fitness," says Bonnie Venton the Pittsford Team Leader.

Boyum was a member of them fitness group "Rochester Moms in Motion." She was a cyclist, swimming and diving coach.

Organizers said the type of event wasn't the only draw...the date and time also just seemed right.

"It came together in an unbelievable way that we were able to celebrate her birthday at the school where she taught, in the town where she lived, with so many people that loved her and appreciate her so much," Venton says. "For people to come out and be out here in the rain just speaks more to how wonderful Heather was and how much we miss her."

Money raised Sunday will go towards the Heather Boyum Memorial Children's Education Fund. It will help her children go to college.

Including Sunday's event, the charity has raised $13,000. Anyone can donate just click here.
