After months serving her country in Afghanistan a local U.S. Marine is finally back on US soil. On Wednesday, the family of U.S. Marine Cpl. Brittany King welcomed her home with open arms.

There were flags, balloons and banners and countless loved ones. King served seven months in Afghanistan, in harms way, defending her country.

"I was basically in the center of operations," she said.

Now she's safe, back in her mother's arms.

"Just enjoying having her home," Mom Lori King said.

King stood in awe as her community welcomed her home and said thank you.

"I can't stop crying, happy tears though it's good," King said. "It's really good to know that people support us."

She's now looking forward to a few home comforts.

"Just home cooked meals, I miss them all," King said. "Three weeks and I'm going to be hunting a lot. Other than that, I don't' really have much planned. Just spend time with my family."

On October 29, King is going back to Camp Pendleton in California.
Her mother says knowing her daughter is back on American soil is a relief.
