Remembering Alex Kogut

On Thursday, hundreds of people gathered together with heavy hearts; all of them
mourning the loss of 18-year-old Alex Kogut.
She was a daughter, big sister, friend and so much more.
"She was a wonderful person. She was always smiling, and if she saw you not smiling, she would make you smile," said Paige Whitney.
Alex's friends and family say she had unconditional love for everyone. She was happy, optimistic and ready for her new life as a college student.
"She was having so much fun. She was always around the swim team and when she wasn't, she was always close to other teams at Brockport. She just made friends with everyone," said Whitney.
Alex was only at SUNY Brockport for a month before her life was taken away. It was her hometown, New Hartford, that knew her best.
"To think that I had her for a student... I just thought it was a privilege to know and to share a life with her," said Halyna Gnap, Alex's childhood piano teacher.
Alex's death was a tragedy and a life taken way too soon, but at Thursday's service, her godparents had a message for everyone.
"Our hope is that you celebrate her life and the love rather than remember the few tragic moments that took her from us," said Kelly Kogut, Alex's godmother.
