Brockport Community Remembers Murdered Student

Updated: October 1, 2012

The vigil wrapped up Monday evening with a slideshow of pictures of Alex played along to, "Somewhere over the Rainbow."
Students consoled each other as they walked out of the Seymour Union, on the campus of SUNY Brockport, hugging and holding hands.
18 year old Alex Kogut's friends, room mate, and a team mate all spoke, sharing stories of their friend.
Kogut's great uncle spoke briefly, saying, "Alex was a great person, you would have loved getting to know her.
Inside the student union there were pictures of Alex and a banner for students to sign.
The vigil was organized by SUNY Brockport students.  They say supporting each other through tough times is what the Brockport family is all about, "as a swimming community were all one," said Brockport Senior Phil Schneider, "so past present and future we all stick together and support each other." Brockport senior Stephanie Connolly added, ""I can't understand but I do understand as her parents teachers faculty everybody coming out other students saying if that was me, just being here as a school of one."
More than 1,000 people attended Monday night's vigil.  It was standing room only.
