Trials Date Set For Canandaigua Woman Accused of Faking Cancer

The trial of the Canandaigua woman accused of faking cancer for money is set to begin in January.

A judge set the trial for Melissa Jones for January 7th. Police say Jones lied about having caner to obtain money in a series of community fundraisers. Jones scammed an estimated $30,000 from about 200 donors by claiming to have stage four breast cancer. They say she had letters from doctors stating she was cancer-free, but she manipulated them to indicate otherwise.

Jones faces several charges, including grand larceny and falsifying business records.
