At Johnson Controls in Victor, they work to help businesses reduce energy. "Johnson Controls delivers services, products, and solutions to increase energy efficiency and lower operating costs," says General Manager Wendy Buchholz.
But now they are expanding their horizons with a website that aims to help everyone go green.
"We wanted to get more involved in the community in terms of sustainability and green initiatives.
So we thought what better way to do that than to come up with a site where people could talk, blog, could post videos and events that are coming up," says Buchholz.
The website, mytownrochester.ning.com
has lots of go green tips. There are videos showcasing green projects and lots of blogs from environmental experts. It was launched four months ago.
"The response has been great. We've received blogs from University of Rochester, the Center for Environmental Initiatives, Monroe County, R.I.T., and we're also working with some schools to get them to do some blogs."
They also want to include ideas and advice from non-experts, showing what people in Rochester are doing to go green at home.
"It's really about what everyone in Rochester is doing to make sure they are more green and more sustainable," says Buchholz.
Johnson Controls hopes to expand the site to cities across the country. Right now it is just set up in Rochester and in San Antonio.
