Businesses Expect Good Fall Turnout Despite Muted Fall Foliage

The fall foliage might not be as vibrant as some people are used to, but local companies that cater to foliage lovers are still expecting a good turnout.

Lee Poinan's boat, the Colonial Belle, offers a foliage cruise in October. Even though experts say this year the leaves won't be as colorful he doesn't think it will stop customers from coming out. This summer's drought put stress on area trees. Turning their leaves yellow, orange and red early. In fact, some leaves are already falling to the ground. However, Poinan still expects to see a lot of foliage tourists.

"We're used to it being very vivid colors at times but there's always some color," Poinan said.

"If you're really were taking photographs and comparing a particular tree yes you might see a difference. other than not probably not," Horticulturist Walt Nelson said.

The Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance says there is a significant spike in tourism in the fall. The group expects many hotels and foliage tours to book up this year.
