Wings Playoff Hopes All But Gone

By: Thad Brown
Updated: August 26, 2012
The Wings admitted before the night began they probably had to win every game left to make the playoffs.

Instead, they kept on losing.

Buffalo scored four times in the 3rd inning to beat the Wings 5-3 Saturday night. It was Rochester's 7th loss in their last nine games.

With Buffalo down 3-0 entering the bottom of the third, Fred Lewis ripped a double to right field that scored Den Dekker. Zach Lutz followed with an RBI double to make it 3-2. The Bisons tied on a sac fly and Matt Tuiasosopo capped the rally with a run-scoring single. The Red Wings would not score again.

Buffalo starter Chris Schwinden made it through 6.2 innings, allowing only one walk on the night, compared to five strikeouts. He was relieved by Andrew Carpenter, who induced a strikeout to close the seventh inning.

Garrett Olson and Fernando Cabrera combined to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth, closing the deal for Buffalo. Cabrera induced an Evan Bigley pop-out to close the deal.
