But state police say a former Hillside worker violated that. He's accused of having sex with boy under his supervision.
29-year-old Matthew King worked there for about a year and a half, he was suspended in mid-July and fired from his job ten days later.
King is facing 5 counts of Criminal Sexual Act, a felony, and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Court documents show the acts allegedly consisted of anal and oral sex between King and a 15-year-old boy in the doorway of a room, a laundry room, inside a van and in King's bedroom.
It's not clear from court documents if any of the abuse happened at Hillside.
The Executive Director of Hillside's Children's Center, Karen Zandi says King passed a child abuse background check, a criminal background check, substance abuse screening and reference checks and never raised any flags.
Zandi added the boy told a staff member about the abuse, a line of communication she hopes will continue among all of their clients.
"We have increased our communications to any of the parents who have children with us to ensure that they're with us in having those conversations with our children, and that our commitment to keeping children safe is sustained."
The charges filed against King pertain to one alleged victim.
State Police are asking anyone with more information on this case, or any other that may be connected to King, to come forward.
