A grand jury will hear the case of a local woman accused of driving drunk and killing a popular Fairport High School teacher.

Megan Merkel is charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of Heather Boyum. Her case was waived to a grand jury Wednesday morning.

Boyum is the teacher who was killed on Route 250 in Penfield two weeks ago. Merkel's boyfriend, Mark Scerbo, has also been charged.
