Police got the call just after 7 this morning, saying a man was stuck inside this dock loader on Canal Street.
He had actually wedged himself over this cross bar and under a steel plate, which likely weighs hundreds of pounds.
54-year-old Tyrone Martin didn't have permission to be on the property, which is owned by Bags Unlimited.
They believe Martin was trying to steal scrap metal from a motor when the giant machine fell on him.
Derek Collins was on his way to work when he saw what happened. He and several others ran to Martin, but he was already unconscious.
He said "The 4 of us tried to lift up the plate so we could actually release him, but we weren't able to do that."
Collins called 9-1-1. Firefighters eventually released Martin from the machine.
Collins added "It's not something that you expect to see. You question if there was anything you could do to help, I feel like myself and those that were on scene took the best precautions that if there's anything we could do we would have."
A Bags Unlimited worker estimated the scrap metal inside the loader is only worth about $12.
