New Body Piercing Law in New York State

By: WROC-TV
Updated: July 31, 2012
There are new rules coming for New York teens who want body piercings.

Governor Cuomo signed the bill Monday that requires all people under 18 to have written permission from their parents to get a piercing. The bill also requires that piercing studio owners check IDs to make sure the consent form is signed in their presence. The law only applies to piercings not involving the ears. State officials say the new law will help cut down on infections in teens. It takes effect in 90 days.
